The flag of Thailand has the same colors that Americans have on their own country's flag; Red, White & Blue. But on the Thai flag, the Red represents the nation of Thailand and the blood of its people. The Blue represents the monarchy and its importance in Thai society. And the White represents Buddhism and religious purity.
Here in Thailand there is no tradition of having a “separation of church and state”. Buddhism is the state religion that permeates culture and tradition in government and daily life.
People often speak in vague terms about things like freedom and liberty while never being aware of their own bondage to religion. And that problem is not just here in Thailand.
Jesus said, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” And of course the “truth” that Jesus is talking about is Himself. “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
No country, government, flag or religion will ever be able to make anyone free. Only knowing Jesus can do that!
We thank God for the opportunity to continue to tell our neighbors here in Thailand about the true freedom found in Jesus.
